Kallie didn’t drive anything particularly fancy. She didn’t really care what the car looked like that she drove. It was her brothers who were more adamant on getting an SUV. Their runaround had taken them all over America and had seen better years. While some of their pack preferred to use their own transportation, the SUV was seen as a shared vehicle. Sadly the maintenance of it didn’t carry the same sort of weight of it being a shared responsibility. Kallie keeping them in her best interests decided to take it in for a maintenance.
Pulling up at the local repair shop she squinted at the buildings exterior. Her GPS seemed to have gotten the place right. She thought it would have been better to use a local business over going out of town. Kallie wasn’t certain the car would even last another long journey, she might need a taxi home too. Stepping out of her car she wandered into the building. A faint sound of music could be heard from the garage as she strolled through looking for someone, anyone. The interior looked more updated than its exterior had which was a relief.
“Hello?” she called out, stopping beside one of the vehicles already inside the garage. Shifting her weight to lean against the car it’s alarm went off almost immediately. Kallie jumped back away from the car with a look of horror on her face. If her calling out hadn’t caught the owners attention, this just might have. “Oh well this is just great” she muttered under her breath. She could already tell this wasn’t going to be a good first impression.

Valen kept himself busy. He didn't really rest...he didn't need sleep, but that didn't mean he never indulged in replicating the somewhat relaxing behavior, if anything he laid back and closed his eyes, but never slept. He couldn't. So to keep himself busy when he wasn't working the bar, he worked on cars and other vehicles. It was a trade he had picked up many years ago, he had far too much time on his hands, but thankfully he kept himself busy. He had quite a few loyal clients from the town, and while it was small you would think he wouldn't be all that busy, but he did get the occasional traveler or recommendation from someone outside of town, so...he felt like he was constantly on the go, but there was still quite a bit of free space in his life that he hadn't figured out how to fill just yet.
Currently laying under one car – of the two that could even fit in the garage – Valen was focused on tightening a few parts, barely catching the sound of the outside door opening into the little lobby outside the garage area, and he hadn't caught the sound of the person calling out as he had headphones placed in his ears as well, even though he had the radio also going for whenever he didn't care what he was listening to. The loud and startling honking sound of the car alarm going off from the neighboring vehicle was enough to make him jump slightly, slamming his forehead into the bottom of the low riding truck he was working on at the moment, a loud thud echoing off the metal he had just struck. While pain was easy to recover from, rather quickly at that, it didn't mean he didn't feel like anyone else. The initial irritation of slamming his face into the engine of a car...was mostly it. It didn't really hurt much after a few seconds, but to keep up with his more...human appearance, he couldn't let it go at just that.
“What in the hell...” Always an ironic choice of words, wasn't it? Sliding himself out from underneath the truck and wiping at his forehead, bits of grease here and there, he moved quickly to grab the set of keys he had to the other vehicle, clicking the 'panic' button on the set of keys and the car then went silent before pulling the headphones away from his head. Hazel blue eyes shifted to look towards the culprit of who had set off the car and Valen wasn't sure whether he was amused...or...downright uncertain of Kallie being here. After a brief moment of allowing Kallie's presence to register, Valen couldn't help but fold his arms across his chest, at least this was his domain this time. “Couldn't stay away from me, could you? That's okay...you're not the first.” Though in all honesty he was fairly certain that this was just coincidence, something that was going to be either really funny or really annoying later on.
He supposed that depended on how this went today.

Kallie didn’t pick up on any other noise with the sound of the radio filling the room. She wasn’t really going out of her way to focus on listening. Assuming someone might have shown up sooner or later. If it wasn’t bad enough she’d triggered one of the alarms, the thud coming from under the other car caused her to internally cringe. This was turning out to be one of the worst introductions since moving to Valhaven. Just wait until Alice got wind of this.
Finally Valen’s face made an appearance and for a brief moment Kallie was speechless. Staring at him blankly while he turned off the alarm and pulled his headphones out she let him be the first to speak up. No sooner did the words leave his mouth she let out a loud and indignant scoff. “You’re fricking everywhere” she sighed and shook her head. Kallie wasn’t really sure at all what to make of this. A demon mechanic bartender-owner... thingy. What a mouthful that was. “How many damn jobs do you have? Are you the town mayor too?” she raised a brow at him, a mixture of curiosity and being completely unamused.
Spinning on her heels she started to walk back out the way she came. She didn’t trust him very much, there was no way in hell she’d let him near her car. Already on edge from realizing exactly how isolated she was with him right now. She weighed the risks and decided to casually nope on out there. She paid very close attention to his movements while she left. This was really not her day.

With only a few more things to do before Valen would make the call that this low riding truck was done and ready to be picked up, he hadn't expected an interruption in the form of the second car's alarm blaring and sending him into a slight panic. After having smashed his forehead into the lower part of the engine beneath the truck and pulling himself out from underneath it to tend to the blaring car, he couldn't help but look for the culprit. Pulling the ear buds away from his head and letting them drop to hang around his collar as his eyes settled on the blonde he had met not too long ago. Kind of...weird, if he was being honest, and now they were without witnesses here...was it going to be even weirder?
As soon as he spoke – finding himself rather proud of that comment – Kallie was speaking as well, not seeming too pleased that it was he she ran into here and not someone else. Well, that kind of confirmed it in Valen's head. She didn't trust him, and that had to be because of what he was. Or what she thought he was, depending on how much she knew about other supernaturals out there. He still didn't have her pegged, not entirely, but he felt that the more he thought about it...the closer he would get. Her obvious discomfort with it all was...almost pleasing, enough to give him something to laugh about later, but for now, he just let a somewhat gleeful smirk pull at the corners of his lips. Her behavior was a show for him and he certainly was finding himself more than amused with it. “Not everywhere...more like...coincidence. Haven't you ever heard of someone having two jobs before?”
But Kallie was on the move, having none of this, apparently.
Giving it a few seconds as she turned and seemed to make a swift getaway, Valen sighed and rolled his eyes before casually following after her, not seeming in any hurry or any real interest, but he was internally a little worried as to what...she could say or do if she really pegged him down completely as to being...well...not normal. The last thing he needed was for the new blood in town to start spouting things about him, though he had a bit more people on his side considering he had made a pretty decent name for himself among the people of Valhaven, even still, rumors would not serve him well...and he sure as hell didn't want to pack up and move again should anything bad start floating around. If he could finish getting his dirt on Kallie...then there was always threatening her own public safety here in town as well. Sometimes you had to play dirty to get by in your own life.
Eyeing the car she had with her just outside the shop, Valen quirked an eyebrow before shaking his head in disapproval. “Car's not going to start. If you're looking to make a getaway...you can either walk, call a cab...or I can fix it and send you on your way. I'm going to assume that's why you're here, New Blood...”

Kallie stood in the middle of the garage confronting the very same demon she’d met just days before. She’d honestly not expected to see him again so soon. It was a conflicting mix of emotions which only added to her mild annoyance. Her car was on the verge of dying and now she was having to deal with this new problem. While she didn’t particularly mind his presence, she didn’t like surprises or not knowing much about him. Valen only seemed to be enjoying her reaction. He smirked back at her like this was some sort of game. Tilting her head to call out to him as she made her way out of his garage towards her car, “Sure, but you didn’t really mention this second job last time we spoke. Come to think of it, there was an awful lot you didn’t mention about yourself. Mechanic bartender-owner possibly-mayor was quite the mouthful for you to say, right?”
She heard him follow behind her, Kallie could keep her cool but the tension practically radiated off of her. She avoided conflict if she could. She might have had the knowledge of what he was, but that was really her only advantage here. It’s taken the majority of the pack to take down a demon in the past. A lone wolf had little to no chance, especially without knowing exactly how old he was.
Rummaging into her jacket pocket she produced the keys and unlocked her car. Shooting him a quick glare as he set her up to fail, she yanked open the door causing it to creak. Kallie was too stubborn for her own good at times. “It’ll start, hasn’t failed on me yet” she retorted defiantly, lying along the way. There’s been a couple of times where a few attempts were needed to start it. “...and it’s Kallie, not New Blood. Would you like me to spell it for you?” she scrunched up her nose as she pulled herself into the car.
Pushing the keys into the ignition she pressed her foot down on the break and tried to start it up. The engine spluttered into a dead silence. Of all the times the car could have died, it had to be this exact moment. Letting out a small huff she tried two more times before silently admitting defeat. Hands removing from the steering wheel she stayed seated in the car while her mind raced to figure out her next move. Maybe it was time to call her brother.

Valen...really wasn't sure if he liked the presence in his garage at the moment. Sure, Kallie was easy on the eyes, she had been pretty easy to talk to as well...but that was public. Now, there were no other sets of eyes watching them, nothing to hold either of them back from saying whatever was on their mind, no longer verbally dancing around a topic that was hardly ever discussed among the supernatural folk. Not really, at least from what he had witnessed over his many, many years. It was slightly amusing though, as well as a little unsettling, but what was she actually going to do? If Valen really...really wanted to ensure her silence – not that she had called him out or anything – he could make it happen, or just up and leave if he was that worried, but...he was pretty sure that nothing would come of this. Didn't stop that bothering feeling though.
“Last time we spoke...? You mean, the first and only time we spoke, right? Now, I might just be a little old fashioned, but I didn't think one needed to spill out their entire life story upon the first meeting.” His tone held a little irritation, though not much, considering this was a bit more entertaining for him than anything. Her reactions, her words, it was enjoyable, oddly enough. “Besides, if I told you everything...that would leave no room for surprises.” You know, like the whole demon thing. Following after Kallie as she seemed rather hellbent on getting out of here, Valen wasn't in too much of a hurry, he had the feeling she wasn't going to get very far...especially if she was here for auto-repairs. He'd judge the moment as soon as she left the building, then decide what needed to be done, if anything at all.
Judging by the looks of the car – it wasn't bad or anything, but he had seen cars almost all of his 'human' life – it wasn't going to start. Or maybe it was just a lucky guess, or wish, and the glare he received got nothing more than a small smirk in return. Watching as Kallie got in the car and tried to get it to start, it was almost a little sad as the car had whined in protest before...dying, really. Looking away and off to the side to seem totally disinterested, Valen placed himself in the doorway, leaning casually against the frame as he messed around with the earbuds hanging around his collar. “Hmm, hasn't failed you yet, huh? First time for everything, I guess, New Blood.” He was deliberately not even calling her by her name, if only to irritate her further, which he was particularly good at if he put his mind to it with most people. All you had to do was find something, a shred of irritation to play off of.
Constantly.
Hazel blue eyes lifted to narrow in on the blonde once more, taking the opportunity to not try and keep up his 'mask' anymore, as far as being a so-called monster went. In the blink of an eye, Valen had more or less teleported from where he had been casually leaning against the door frame, to leaning back against Kallie's car just outside the driver's seat, still seaming disinterested, looking down to the headphones once again. “So...Kallie, then. Am I fixing this? Or...does my being what I am truly terrify you that much? If that's the case, it won't take you long to walk your way back to the main part of town...” The cat was out of the bag awhile ago, and even if it wasn't, it was going to be, she just hadn't said anything. All the signs had been there, so revealing what he was in both words and action...it didn't seem to really faze the demon any longer, after all, there was still something unnatural about her as well.

“Yes, that one time. You're easy to forget about. I don’t need to know your entire life story to get the basics” she shook her head some. The fact he now seemed as mildly irritated as she did brought some kind of relief. It meant he didn’t really have a plan on how to handle this. Both of them were figuring it out as they went along. “Maybe I don’t like surprises” she stated matter of factly. Some surprises were enjoyable, such as gifts on birthdays or someone making you a coffee just because. Getting some kind of surprise from someone she barely knows sent up all sorts of red flags for her.
Kallie strode across the parking lot to her car. She might have been in a better mood if they weren’t completely alone. It was an uncomfortable feeling being completely alone with Valen. Her gut told her to leave, but logically he might have been her best bet on getting her car repaired. She doubted she’d find another mechanic in time. The car was on its last legs, had been for a while now. “Not everything, Valen” she called back out while she seated herself in the driver's seat and made her attempts to start it up.
Her hands dropped into her lap as she leaned her head back into the headrest. Within seconds Valen blinked out of view ahead of her. Simultaneously a figure appeared beside the window, blocking some of the sunlight. The jig was up. No more playing around the fact she’d not pointed out what he was. Hand moving to the switch on the door the window came down. Kallie gave him an unimpressed look. “You don’t scare me, just don’t give me a reason to send your ass back to hell” Her eyes lingered on him for a second longer to see his reaction before going back to looking at her car’s interior. Taking in a deep breath she sucked up a little pride when she spoke once more. “Fine. You win. How long will it take you to get it running again?”
Leaning towards the passenger seat she pulled her bag onto her lap. While some prefered those petite bags which carried one or two items, Kallie had always stuck with oversized ones which could carry all the crap. She often collected things her travels and her bag showed that. Probably one of the only chaotically organized messes in her life. Kallie was one to keep everything in her life in order… just not this. As she began to rummage for her phone all kinds of items clinked together. “Pretty sure I had holy water in here somewhere” she muttered out with a small smirk while she continued to rummage.

Valen was almost one hundred percent sure that by the end of this little encounter...things were going to be different. He wasn't quite sure whether that was good or bad, but he was certain that the real him that he had done so well to hide wouldn't be so secretive anymore, at least not to Kallie. With the way she spoke, the way she was acting now, it was obvious to him that she had her theories, or just one in particular which made him out to be a being that people wouldn't want to be around. Otherwise...why would this be such a big deal? Why would she seem annoyed at the fact that he was here as well? If that wasn't the reason, then he wouldn't know what to think.
“Sounds to me like you need to lighten up then.” Valen spoke under his breath before she was well on her way across the lot, getting to her car and seeming so sure that it would start up, even though he had predicted its failure. Instead of coming up with a smart reply as she tried to get her car to work, Valen just remained casual, staring off into the distance, looking away occasionally, not seeming to be interested for the moment. As predicted though, the car just...it wouldn't start. That was also a little amusing if he was being honest, being right was always nice. “You were saying?” He spoke a little loudly to ensure that Kallie would hear him across the lot before he decided that it wasn't worth trying to feign innocence here, she obviously knew something about him was off, so why not just...let her see for herself? Even if it was one tiny little display, that blinking movement that sent him distances without physically having to move...it was the easiest and most common thing he did anyways.
Casually leaning against the side of Kallie's car, he officially let the cat out of the bag. “I don't scare you? Your attitude says otherwise,” A very faint chuckle couldn't help but breeze past his lips, at her little threat though, it was always amusing whenever hell-based terminology was used. “Send me back? Hmm, good luck with that.” Pushing himself off of the side of the car slightly and backing away to give her – and the vehicle – a bit of space, he looked the car over once from where he was standing before giving a shrug. “That depends on what all is wrong with it. If it's nothing major...maybe a half hour to an hour. That would be if I threw your car needs at the top of my list though...I do have other clients you know.” He drawled slightly, putting a rather thoughtful look to his face before catching wind of the small mutter she had spoken.
Holy water, really?
The stuff burned like nobody's business, it would be best to avoid anything like that. A small grumble escaped the demon as he moved to pop the hood of her vehicle, looking at it and determining what needed to be done. He could do regular old maintenance on it, get everything changed and cleaned out and see if that did the trick without having to actually be in the garage...but if it was more than that, he wasn't sure Kallie would like hearing she was stuck for awhile. “There's coffee in the main lobby before the garage...nothing in comparison to that of your cafe but it'll suffice, I'm sure.” Heading into the garage and getting some tools and supplies, Valen made his way back out to the car and started to get to work, then he'd really need to get back to the other vehicles he was working on and hopefully get them ready to go by tomorrow, after he helped out at the bar this evening. It really was a good thing he didn't need to sleep or any of that junk, otherwise he would be running himself absolutely ragged. “Since we're all about details and knowing things, you know what I am...now what are you? I think that's only fair, and I know you're not like the others...” Well, flat out asking never hurt, if anything she could either...ignore him, say no, or make up some random story that he likely wouldn't believe.

She’d caught the comment he’d said under his breath. Now all her attention was on him and her car it was difficult not to hear everything. She chose not to comment, mainly because he was probably right. She was completely fine around her friends, always a lot of energy and fun. Around Valen though? A whole different story. Hearing his voice once more while she was in the car, Kallie resisted flipping him off as he gloated. “You’re not as cute as you think you are” she called back out to him, a small scowl on her face.
Of course it was a little disappointing when Valen confirmed he was indeed a demon. She could no longer tease him about knowing without directly saying so. At the same time though she was surprised. Usually supernatural folk were guarded about their identities, Kallie included. Then here he was flitting about the place like he was a damn fairy. She barely knew him and yet he still revealed himself. Either he had the ego to match or he had the smallest amount of trust in doing so around her. She was putting her bets on it being the former.
“My attitude says that I don’t trust you yet, it has nothing to do with fear” she rolled her eyes some at his comment. Kallie knew to be wary as he could be dangerous if he really wanted to be. She was at a disadvantage here and very well knew it. Even if Valen had not yet posed as a threat to her, he still very well could be. “Mhm” she hummed in amusement when he brushed off her threat. Kallie just wanted to make sure he knew if he overstepped boundaries she’d be sure to put him back in place, or at least try.
She could see from the corner of her eye that he’d moved back while he spoke some more. “Right. Well I’ll be fine with paying an emergency fee if that’ll bump be back to the top of your priorities. The customers are always right, and all that.” She pulled her attention away from the bag to glance at him with a small smirk. She was sure he’d bump her to the top just to get rid of her. Either way she hoped her car wouldn’t take long to fix. Hearing his grumble brought another satisfied smile to her lips. Finally finding her phone she tossed the bag of everything back onto her passenger seat and removed herself from the vehicle. Leaving Valen to it she wandered off to the lobby to grab a drink.
Waiting for the first paper cup to fill with coffee she got to work on texting her brother to find she had no signal. “Stuck here with no signal, just perfect” she muttered under her breath, holding the phone up over her head in the hopes that she just might pick up one bar. The machine beeped as it had finished filling the cup. Without much thought she replaced the cup with another empty one and started up the machine again. Wandering to the other side of the lobby she tried holding the phone above her head over there. Once she was certain her attempts were fruitless she stuffed the phone back into her pocket and headed back to the machine just as it beeped once more. Taking both cups outside she wandered over to her car. “Well my phone sucks. So unless you plan on possessing and murdering me, can I use your phone or something?” she spoke casually while holding the cup of coffee out to him.

Everything was a little up and down right now. Valen was not only a little...well..irritated with the turn of events for his day so far, but he was also mildly amused at the display. Resisting the urge to do anything at Kallie's words, the demon could only stand there and feel a smirk threatening the corners of his lips as he watched, and of course he had been correct. Feeling his ego soar a little it at that, Valen had also decided that he was done with any games, not that many had been played...but it was better to shut that all down before it started up again. He could read people fairly well, at least most of the time, and judging by Kallie's attitude, as well as her choice of words from before...he was certain she knew what he was, or just that he wasn't human, much like how he was determined she was anything but normal as well.
“Yet, right?” If she truly was fearless in the face of what could be danger...then he had to give her some serious props. If anything it was to boost his ego just a little bit more, he hadn't hurt anyone...recently...and he didn't plan on breaking that trend, he had wanted nothing more than to fit in, sort of. He did so well over the course of having this body...he had been nothing but a good citizen, a little bit of a troublemaker at times, but it wasn't anything that could tarnish his good record. One girl wasn't going to undo his hard work, as well as his pride. He was proud of the fact that he was...something of a black sheep among his type of beings. He wasn't scary, though could be if he really wanted to be, he didn't seek chaos an destruction...he wanted none of that. He just wanted to live peacefully without any real strings attached to what he was, this was as close to that as he was going to get.
Having moved away from the car, heading to the front to start to get an idea of what it was he needed to do, Valen figured it would probably do them both some good to just...fix the car and send Kallie on her way. She was likely agitated, he was a little bit, among the irritation as well, but he could get back to his other clients' cars after he fixed whatever was wrong with this one. “I'll remember that when I hand you the bill.” He dryly spoke before getting to work, letting her do her own thing, she had some time to kill anyways. Starting out with the basics, the oil and other fluids, Valen made sure everything was filled, cleaned off and up to date, he even took the liberty to ensure that the battery was still good and hooked up just right, making sure it was all tight and well secured. He'd need to get underneath for the more time consuming part of the maintenance work...but he really would have preferred for it to be in the garage.
Just as he had finished under the hood, not quite shutting it yet, Kallie had returned, two cups of coffee with her which was almost laughable, it really was going in waves here, ups and downs. Wiping slightly greasy hands against his pant legs, Valen reached out for the coffee cup and quirked a brow towards her. “For me? Well that's very nice of you...but haven't you heard? You're not supposed to feed the demons, they might bite.” Saying it out loud...demon...it almost left a weird taste in Valen's mouth, he hadn't actually said it before, but as far as how he felt...he was almost indifferent. “Possession? Murder? Not really my thing.” Fishing into his pocket and pulling out his phone, Valen handed it over before making a gesture towards the lobby once more. “I usually get signal out here...but if that doesn't work...there's a landline behind the counter. Also, I'm going to need your keys.” Unless she wanted to break down on the side of the road without letting him finish the job – safely.

Kallie tilted her head as he repeated one of her words. Not even realizing she’d said it or the sort of implications it could have until she heard it in his voice. She didn’t trust him... yet. Just having that last word tacked onto the end of that sentence, without her thinking about it, goes to show she did on some level want to trust him. After all, they both lived in Valhaven now. Kallie wasn’t planning on burning any bridges to the ground. “Before you know it we’ll be braiding each others hair and exchanging friendship bracelets.” She sarcastically threw back at him. Not confirming or denying she’d ever meant what she’d said.
As he spoke about the bill she held her tongue from immediately answering with something as equally as dry. Kallie decided to just let him do his job and she’d dispute any prices after if she needed to. Not expecting she’d ever need to though. “Whatever happened to that neighbourly welcome?” she commented out loud with an exaggerated sigh while she wandered towards the lobby. Kallie smiled to herself, it wasn’t everyday she came across someone like Valen. Part of her wanted to smother that stupid gloating face of his, while another part was really enjoying the banter between them. Growing up with four other siblings meant Kallie was used to it being world war three every other day. This back and forth between her and Valen was a breeze.
Patiently keeping her arm extended with the cup for him she arched her eyebrow at his comment. With her best poker face she calmly replied “What’s to say I don’t bite too?” Kallie couldn’t resist. The smirk started to pull at the corner of her lips “It’s eating the inside of you to know, isn’t it?” They both knew exactly what she meant. How else would she have been able to tell he was a demon the moment he walked into the cafe. Even now his scent lingered thickly in the air alongside the smell of their coffees. “Really?” She asked doubtfully at his answer. So she pressed for more. “A demon that doesn’t possess or murder, yet has a body. Either you’re a terrible liar or you should be in a museum with the other fossils.”
Taking the phone from his hand she glanced on down at it, unsure of what to make at the gesture. Expecting he might have just pointed her to a payphone or the landline she didn’t expect getting access to his mobile. She hesitated about using it but decided to do a call rather than the text she’d originally planned to do. Pulling the keys from her pocket she tossed them in the air for him to catch. “Right... Thanks” She spoke flatly as she turned to walk away from him. Hitting in the digits for her oldest brother she held the phone to her ear. After a moment a voice on the other end answered. “Hey, it’s Kallie. No I’m fine don’t worry, just no signal. I took the car into the local shop. Checking in to let you know.” There was a small pause before she spoke up again. “Okay awesome, I’ll leave you to it. Talk later, bye” Pulling the phone away she ended the call and wandered back over to Valen. Still holding her coffee she sipped on it while scrolling through his contacts to look for one which said taxi. “Question; are these nudes yours or some other dudes?” she joked, taking advantage of the fact he couldn’t see what she doing on his phone.

This really was all sorts of weird. It was up, it was down, there was harmless banter, and then there was a little more...serious banter mixed in there as well. Valen wasn't quite sure what the mood of all of this was, but he planned to stay on his toes and fire back whatever comments he felt was necessary. The amount of sarcasm that seemed to float between the two of them was incredible, it was a form of language that Valen was rather fluent in, and he enjoyed every second of it. “I don't know about that, I don't do braids...” He was quick to assure her in his own sarcastic way before it was probably best that he get to work...and get her out of here. No doubt she didn't want to be here stuck with him for that long, and he kind of did have other things to do...this was just throwing a bit of a hitch into his schedule for the day but hey, it wouldn't be the first time something came up.
Something...weird.
“We're not in the neighborhood anymore.” To work! While Kallie went to the lobby to help herself to coffee or whatever it was she wanted to do, Valen got to work. The normal oils and fluids stuff never took long, it was always the breaks and other filters that tended to take a bit more time, and that required a little it more than just popping the hood. It hadn't actually taken any time at all before the blonde was back, coffee in hand...one for him as well, which was...a little unexpected, but alright. Having made the small teasing comment about demons and their bite, Valen couldn't help the chuckle that escaped him afterwards. “I'm not sure whether that should intrigue me or not. As for knowing...at least you acknowledge the fact that there is something different about you...whatever that is...I will admit I am curious.” He wanted to know, he felt as if he NEEDED to know, it was part of what drew him to being a social hot spot in the tiny town of Valhaven, he was the eyes and ears around there...he knew just about anything there was to know out here, except her.
That was right. A demon who didn't murder (...anymore) or possess, that was a little unlike the scary stories, wasn't it? It was rather spot on though, at least regarding the strong majority of others of his kind. “Now that's not fair. You're digging me for information...yet you have barely told me a thing about you,” But if she really was curious, a small smirk crossed his lips as he faced Kallie directly, gesturing to himself. “All me. I have yet to possess...and keep a host. Why, when I can just make my own?” Leaving it at that for now, Valen was quick to snatch the keys she had tossed after he had handed over his phone, moving to get the car – hopefully – started and close to the garage so he could get his tools and what not a bit easier. While Kallie was on the phone, after two attempts, Valen had gotten the car to rumble to a start, all he needed to do was get it closer, and once he did, he cut the engine once more, not wanting to overwork it at the moment, not that it had gone far, a few feet at best.
As soon as that temporarily silence had been broken, Valen looked back over his shoulder, Kallie scrolling around on his phone or something, but her choice of words was...well, he actually laughed, if that said anything, he knew she had to be bluffing, he hardly ever spent time on the phone as it was, but the attempt was pretty damn good. “If you're trying to rile me up...I'm sure you can do better than that...” Not even bothering to take the phone back for the moment, he started to work his way under the car, to take care of the remaining repairs, or potential repairs and make sure everything was working as it should be. Tightening a few things here and there, making sure the filters weren't clogged and were changed properly, Valen was certain that the vehicle would run just fine, there was just a lack of maintenance on it...which was far too common anyways. Crawling his way out from underneath the vehicle, wiping his hands against his pants again before closing the hood as well and giving it a small pat, he looked back over towards Kallie. “Now, she if she wants to start up for you. Key's in he ignition.” Taking a step away from the car but also extending his hand towards Kallie at the same time. “I'll be taking that phone back.”

“How disappointing” she muttered back, feigning a more sad look to go along with her pout. She never anticipated Valen to be the sort which could braid hair, the thought amused her though. Their conversation had been a little mix of everything which was unusual as far as the normal social standards went. Though she knew they were far from normal. However they defined this run-in, Kallie was certain she wouldn’t be forgetting it anytime soon.
Glancing down at the coffee in her hand she smiled some. Her eyes going back to his she shrugged and kept a straight face. “There’s nothing different about me. Just the same as any other person. I shook my magic eight ball and asked it if I would meet a demon that day. Lo and behold, you walked into my cafe. Merely a coincidence” Okay so now she was most definitely dancing around the topic. Maybe if she denied it enough he might doubt himself. Believe he was crazy. She could remain hopeful. More guessing games, Kallie was certainly enjoying this.
When he called her out for digging without returning the favor she couldn’t help laughing. “You found out I’m not terrified of you. Just simply don’t trust you. So ask away?” Sipping on her coffee some more she braced herself for the most obvious of questions. She wondered if he’d go that route or waste the question on something more sarcastic. Listening to him speak about never having possessed anyone she couldn’t help but feel somewhat impressed. “Making your own body must have been difficult” she found herself speaking out loud. It meant he was possibly a few hundred years old. Only the oldest of demons could create bodies. She certainly wasn’t about to tell him he’d done a half decent job.
Leaning with her back against the door of the car she finished off her coffee and smiled some more when Valen laughed. Of course he saw right through her bluff. Kallie hadn’t minded, she had already started to feel more at ease around him. “Now why would I do a thing like that? That sounds like a dicey move.” She smiled some more to herself. Watching him crawl under the space below her car she took both the empty coffee cups back to the lobby to trash. In the time it took him to finish up under her car, Kallie had plenty of time with his phone. She added her number into his contacts along with a selfie of her pulling a face for when she ever needed to call he might remember who she was. She had a feeling he wouldn’t forget, but the photo was another way for her to wind him up. Closing up his phone she nodded and held it back out to him.
Moment of truth. Slowly she pulled herself back into the SUV and took a sharp breath in as she started up the ignition. The engine rumbled into a soft purr which she’d not heard in a long time. “Good as new!” she exclaimed happily, reaching out for her bag of everything. “So how much do I owe you?” Head down she was already looking for her purse in this mess. It was in here somewhere. Filling the silence with more chatter she continued to search. “I suppose I could rate this visit a three star…” another mischievous smile grew as she finally found what she was looking for and glanced back to him.

Now if there was one thing Kallie said that he wouldn't believe...was that she was normal. There was no way that was possible. He wasn't a mind reader, nor did he have a whole lot of experience dealing with other supernatural beings – though he had – he didn't recall how to tell them apart, aside from some of the very basic of ways. He could have pegged one of his own kind easily, so he was at least certain she was far away from where he was on the spectrum of things. It was a curious thing, wasn't it? Quirking an eyebrow at the blonde though as she spoke of a magic eight ball, Valen just shook his head and rolled his eyes. “Right, because that works.” If she wanted to keep dancing around the topic, then that was fine, he'd figure it out.
“I could ask, but since you don't trust me, how should I trust that you'll give an honest answer? Sounds like a setup to me. Of all people, I shouldn't be the honest one.” Not that he really cared at the moment, she had known what he was, or at least that there was something different, so why make the effort to skirt around it and play a role that he was already so good at? No one else seemed to catch on, he was just...Valen Blackthorne, your regular average guy with a great sense of humor, good business experience and a great look to him, right? That was at least what he liked to believe. “Not difficult, time consuming though. You're stuck with what you...make...” Putting a rather thoughtful look on his face for a moment, he couldn't help but feel a little egotistical – or a lot, per usual – as he cast a glance towards Kallie. “I did pretty good, if I do say so myself.” And so he had been told on several occasions over the course of his 'human' life.
The attempt at getting him to panic over something on his phone was...pretty good, if he was being honest, but he remained calm and collected, knowing full well that it was nothing more than a bluff. A small smirk pulled at his lips at her words before he started to finish the rest of the job at hand, that way she could get back to her day, and he back to his. After having gotten the vehicle all sorted out, everything was cleaned up, changed and tightened back up, Valen was back up and on his feet, having claimed his phone back and just waiting for the moment of truth as Kallie moved to test the car out. He was certain it would be running just fine then, it just needed a little of his good care into it, didn't it? Hearing the car come to life, and with a more pleasant sound than a dying rumble, Valen did find a smile on his lips, he always held pride in his work after all, not to mention...he had helped Kallie out, that had to be appreciated, right?
Maybe.
Approaching the side of the vehicle, but not too close, Valen folded his arms rather proudly, but not trying to look too full of himself, he was just...happy that he got it to work the first time. Not replying on the payment just yet, Valen gave a slight offended look, but it was a little bit of a mocking one, he wasn't actually hurt by her lack of a better rating. “Only three stars? Out of what, five? I'm going to call that a bullshit score...” He started before shrugging his shoulders, a small last attempt to get information out of her came to mind. “I could just let you go...have your first visit be on the house...but that would be far too kind of me,” he started, cheeky expression pulling at his features. “Give me the answer I've been looking for and we're square, and you can be on your merry way back to Kallie-land.” He of course wanted to know what she was...if he had that...that was the only real question he had about her – for now – and it would likely put his mind at ease, not that he was too incredibly worked up over it, but it was aggravating to be lacking a rather important piece of information about new face in town.

Kallie gave him a rather amused look when he replied back with an equally as sarcastic comment. She was tempted to ask him if he even believed in magic, but decided against doing so. He might have tried to piece together what she was from that comment alone. As much as Kallie loved witchcraft, she really didn’t want to be grouped up with their kind.
His next long winded response was enough to have her roll her eyes. He went with wasting his question on some technicalities. Sure Kallie would have been less inclined to answer truthfully if she didn’t like the question, but there had always been the chance she might have. “I suppose you’d just have to start trusting me” she answered casually, not paying much attention to him. She was more focused on inspecting her nails while Valen worked on her car. “Try me” she finally challenged him, urging him on to ask anything he liked.
It had caught Kallies attention when he spoke about forming his own body. She knew the basics but not the entire picture of what it meant to be to be a demon. “So no… editing?” she spoke carefully, trying to find the right words for this. Imagining it to be like the game sims she couldn’t help but smile at herself. When he spoke again she nodded in agreement, thankfully out of view from Valen. “It’s not bad” she answered, “Did you copy the first good looking guy you came across? I can’t imagine you used your own imagination.”
Sitting in the car with the engine rumbling Kallie was more than happy with the job. Valen had fixed the problem in record time without her needed to find some other transportation home. It was highly likely Valen would never trust her with his phone again. He certainly wasn’t going to fall for that one again. She grinned back at him more when he saw through her teasing. She arched her eyebrow at him when he mentioned no charge. He couldn’t have enjoyed their time together that much surely. Then the catch twenty-two appeared. “I’m nothing,” she answered with a scoff. Still digging her heels in on not giving him any clues. Her biggest concern was right now he only knew of her. Had he known the truth he could piece together the fact her whole family were werewolves too. She preferred to let him think she might just be the black sheep.
Pushing the car into reverse she gave him a look and slowly pushed down on the gas. Valen could just have easily blinked into her car if he really wanted to stop her. Tilting her head out of the window she spoke again. “I put my number in your phone, how’s that for information?” she grinned and gave him a little wave before driving off. Kallie drove away thinking about the events which had just unfolded and smiling to herself. She had expected she’d regret giving him her number somewhere down the line.
