--------------- There it was. Proof that doing odd jobs was not enough to make it out here. However she had made it out here about a year before she decided that she needed a real job. When you were down to your last hundred bucks and decided that beer was the way to spend it, yeah you needed a real job. Rounding the corner, Alice made her way to the VH. The single bar in town, or at least the only one she frequented. As she opened the door, something in the window caught her eye. Stepping to the side looking at the paper plastered on the window, she gave a smirk pulling it off and then stepped inside.
At least she was knew by name in here and got on fair with a lot of the locals. However it was not as if she came here for the food either. Not to say that it was bad or anything. She made her way up to the bar, sitting down and turning to look at all who was there. It was rather empty right now, however she knew that rush was about to happen. People were getting off and it was a Friday night. This place tended to get down right dirty busy on weekends, just like most places. Unless you were cutting hair or something.
Alice placed the want ad for help on the bar in front of her as she looked down the bar, before picking the paper up again she spoke to Valen, the only tender in here that she knew of who was also the owner. "You still have not filled this yet?" She said waving it slightly in front of her with a small shake of her head. "How many folks do you have on staff anyway?" She questioned. This was usually the more 'dead' hours of the day. There were a few patrons, but nothing compared to the evening hours, it was the calm before the storm usually, especially on a Friday evening. Valen was getting things prepared for the night shift, making sure all glasses were clean and free of spots, all the garnish was ready for the drinks, and of course that there were enough beer bottles on ice for quick service that way. He made sure everything was set up each time he tended bar - not that it was every day, he was an owner after all, he needed to do more than just that. Most days he tended bar, others he helped back in the kitchen, sometimes he just did paperwork and handled more of the 'numbers' work, but mostly he felt like a one man show, doing everything and anything he could to ensure that his business would stay afloat without wearing himself too thin.
Before the rush though, he didn't need to be constantly moving so much, just helping get things stocked and ready for the busy evening ahead. With working on finishing up the glasses for later, Valen was sure to keep an eye on everyone within the bar, wanting to make sure that everyone was doing alright for the moment. Watching as one particular regular moved up to the bar, Valen felt a smirk pull at his lips as he finished off the glasses and grabbed a nearby towel to wipe his hands on. Waiting a moment before he was addressed, looking at the piece of paper that Alice had in her hands, he shrugged his shoulders up slightly. “Not yet, no. Only just put that notice up, really...” He answered before leaning ever so slightly against the bar, if he had his assumptions right...he was going to say that Alice was interested in a position here. The bar was pretty busy...they did need some more help, he couldn't do it all himself, no matter how great he thought he was.
“Not enough, apparently.” Valen teased slightly with a small chuckle, looking around the bar once more and thinking about how many people he really did have working here. It was a fairly small place, so there wasn't a lot of room for too many employees, but adding the occasional one here or there would never hurt. “I've got two cooks in the back, they do just fine...there's me behind the bar, and I've got one other girl on the floor as a server...but she tends to the bar whenever I'm not here as well.” He explained, it really was a small staff, but that made money good, and they did get the job done, even on the loaded and busy nights. “I'm looking for another server, poor girl gets a little swamped on our busy nights trying to cover the entire room...” He helped out on the floor if he could, but mostly his primary focus was at the immediate bar. “Why? Are you interested, Alice?”

--------------- Alice gave him a low sarcastic laugh as he said his obvious statement. She listened to him explain his situation. That was good, because Alice could not cook in the first place. If he wanted his costumers to have food poisoning then Alice was the way to go. Had it not been for Marcell she would be on a diet of fruit loops and Chef Boyardee. As he continued to talk of the other girl that did a bit of this and a bit of that, she thought on that too. There was no question that she did not think that she could handle it, it was just the idea of not really being a local at that point. But if she wanted the money then she was just going to have to suck it up.
"Yeah, I might be. Blackthorne." She said as formal as she ever got with him. It was really all on a name basis here in this town. It was like Pleasentville in a small way, except not black and white and it was far more entertaining. Looking around the bar again, "I worked at a place similar to this back in New York. Well you can imagine how busy it got there." She said to him with a small shake of her head.
"Very social person, with decent experience, what would you hire at?" Alice asked as she looked back to him with a small smirk. Using words like would, she did not want to assume, not with Valen anyway. She never fucking knew how to read him and it bugged her sometimes. However she knew a lot of the people that came in here and she also knew what eighty percent of them drank, Valen knew that too. In theory, minus not being able to drink herself into a stupor, this was the perfect place for her to be. TAGGED: Valen | WEARING: Clothes | LOCATION: The VH | NOTES: --

Valen got to know a lot of the regulars that came in, it was normal, he saw them more than anyone else it felt like, so he got to know their names, some of their history, and he became something of an unofficial shrink to some. Alice was a regular within these walls, her attitude was rather fun and loud, this was the perfect place for her. If she was alright shifting from being labeled as a regular here to an employee, then Valen was alright with that...so long as she figured she could handle it. He really had no idea of her experience with these kinds of things, and even if she didn't have it...she struck him as the type to adapt well to this kind of environment, she knew it very well by now anyways.
“Might be...” He repeated in a slightly sarcastic tone towards the blonde. If anything, she was one regular he really did enjoy having around, the mouth on her was an open invitation to fire right back with equally witty and sarcastic comments, the best kind of conversations. “So you do have server experience...well that kind of sweetens the pot then, doesn't it?” The demon teased ever so slightly, he wasn't actually going to dangle the job in front of her and then deny it, Valen was sure he'd enjoy having Alice as a part of his team. She was friends with Marcell after all, so that was a good enough reference for him, but it was fun to mess with the blonde a little bit. She was a spitfire that was for sure, and you couldn't just be sweet and nice to them all the time, you had to get a bit of their attitude – or at least he did, to be entertained.
A low chuckle escaped Valen's lips as he leaned against the bar slightly, looking towards Alice with curiosity coating his features. “Well, there's also the matte of...can you be nice to patrons? We are in the hospitality business after all, you know.” He seemed a little overly sweet with the statement, but the slight dig was there anyways – she wouldn't take offense, it didn't seem like Alice ever did. “If you're asking about pay, I'd start you out at a regular server rate, but also remember that tips is the biggest part of your income...and we don't tax the cash ones here...I'm just that nice.” Valen explained the scale of things, shifting back and away from the bar. “Do you have any bartender experience? If not, have any desire for that? Or are you just looking to work the floor?”
