--------------- The bike that Roland was on could be heard at least a mile away if you knew what it was. It was what he tended to ride when he was in town and not really doing anything. However some of the security walls at the only bank in town were being breached. That was one hell of a job in itself. Normally when the local businesses had problems with anything computer related, they called Roland. Mostly because he had been here in Valhaven longer than any other technician. While sure they might have been good at their jobs, they were not very efficent. Roland did not do the work for free, however he did cut some of them some slack. About the only place that he did not cut any slack with was the University.
Pushing down the kickstand with a foot he pulled his hands up taking off the full helmet and dropping it around one of the bars. The small pop shop that he had pulled in front of was owned by a sweet old couple and they sold baked goods. The remedy to every problem. But they also sold books and things of the like, the people of Valhaven refused to let it die or go out of business. Roland himself had paid their taxes last year.
Opening up the door hearing the bell ring, something that was rare in most parts of the world, "Mister Redfield!" Roland said as he moved up to the counter. "Hawkeye!" Roland gave a laugh at his response giving the older man a handshake. "How are you doing today?" Roland questioned him looking about to see who else was in there. Not many though a few were their regulars. "Hearing the missus complain about this and that, the normal you know." The old man replied as he moved away from the counter getting the laptop that Roland was to fix. "Oh of course. This and that, can't really go wrong there can she?" He answered as he stood at the counter swiveling the computer around to open it up.

| Max was decidedly uncomfortable with going out to traverse the town on his own. He was needing to stay to the shadows, for fear of developing a very telling burn from the sun. It wasn’t too cold out, but he was still wearing a long coat to help protect his arms and chest from getting too much sun. Glancing at the various shops that he was passing by, nothing really caught his eye. What was he even doing here? Truthfully, he didn’t want to go back to his lonely cave so early. Yes, it probably would have been better for him, health-wise, but he was safe enough as long as he kept to the shade and kept his head down. His hands were in his pockets and everything else was covered by the clothing he was wearing.
It was then that a scent caught his nose, and he lifted his head to sniff at the air, much like a dog. He could smell sweets! Max had always had a bit of a sweet tooth, and even though he didn’t get anything nutritionally from eating food like a normal human being, he still enjoyed certain foods. He was rarely given the opportunity to eat ‘desserts’, which was possibly where the obsession with sweets had developed. Once he had gotten a taste for them, he wanted more. Of course, he never said as much to the farmers that were kind enough to give him any. But he loved sweets!
Following the scent to a small store, he winced again at the jingle from the bell that announced his arrival. He hated having such a loud entrance. Oh well, there was nothing that could be done about it. He saw two men standing at the front counter, and quickly averted his eyes and they fell upon some books. Maybe he could kill some time until the man left. He didn’t want to have to deal with two men…not if he didn’t have to.
Taking a deep, yet unnecessary breath to try and calm himself, he moved towards the book shelves. This…may not have been the best idea. He would be able to read most of them, no doubt. Just very slowly. Max had always had an ‘above average’ reading level, but dropping out of school in grade 6…well it hadn’t really improved much beyond that. He could have worked on it on his own, he supposed, but it was next to impossible when he was constantly on the move, or when he was working on farms.
Picking up a book on…romance, it looked like, Max casually flipped through it with pretended interest, but his eyes occasionally would drift over towards the counter where the sweets were. That was where he really wanted to be. The next thing he knew, the book slipped from his grasp and landed on its spine, causing a very loud thud to echo through the rather small store, and Max flinched at the noise. Why had it been so loud?! He was frozen in place, though, unsure as to what he should do. Should he run? Should he put it back? Should he just pick another book and pretend it hadn’t happened?
WHAT WAS HE SUPPOSED TO DO?!

--------------- Roland opened up the computer that in front of him, turning it on he looked behind him as the door opened up, giving a nod and a smile to the boy. Though it was kind of weird to see him dressed the way that he was. Not that he was judging, kids were weird these days. Turning back to the computer that was in front of him he gave a small shake of his head. "How many times is this now? You've gotten another virus." Roland said to the old man with a small shake of his head. But his eyes poured back to the man, "Have you been downloading inappropriate videos again?" Roland asked with an arch of his brow. The old man gave a laugh at his words. "No and you can blame the missus for that when it happened." Roland gave a laugh, "Right, of course."
Roland moved through the computers files, before hooking up a memory stick to it. His head turned again when someone came in the main store from the back. The smell hit him hard from the kitchen. He had been about to say something about it to the woman that came out, but a book was dropped on the floor as he turned to look at the culprit. She rushed over to the boy picking up the book and handing it back to him with a soft smile. The few other people that were in the store greeted her with all smiles.
He picked up the laptop as he stepped up to the older woman, giving her a hug. "It smells fantastic back there. All that magic in the kitchen." He said to her as the woman thanked him and returned his hug. "You had better fix that, I have some work things that I cannot lose." She said to him with a shake of her head, "Yes mam." He said to her in reply stepping away from him and Roland moved to sit down at a table that near the one who had dropped the book. "Are you just going to stand there?" Roland asked him with an arch of his brow.

| Max had noticed the man at the counter turn and nod at him in a greeting, but he couldn’t force himself to return the gesture. He was pretty intimidating, and he simply hurried over to look at the books. He could hear the conversation going on at the counter rather easily, along with a few other small conversations around the shop. There weren’t too many people in here, at least. All of a sudden, there was a distinct smell of baked goods that wafted through the air, and Max closed his eyes and smiled slightly to himself. It smelled so good!
That was when he dropped the book, though, before freezing in place. An older woman rushed over to pick it up for him, and he shakily reached out a hand to accept it. “I…I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to…” he whispered, but the woman really didn’t seem to mind. Green eyes remained on her as she turned and walked back to the two men at the counter, watching curiously as the customer wrapped her up in his arms in a fond embrace. He must be a regular or something…
But his eyes widened as he saw the man slowly come closer to him and hurriedly pretended to be looking at the book again. It didn’t even clue in that he was holding the book upside down. He wasn’t really reading it anyway. The last thing he expected was for the customer to speak…and to speak to him, directly! Max’s neck quickly disappeared as he jumped, his shoulders coming up and his head ducking down before he slowly turned to glance over towards the man. “I…w-well…no…I…”
Licking his lips nervously, he averted his eyes again and slowly put the book back on the shelf. “I just…it smelled…good. And…And I…I didn’t want to…interrupt…” he said softly, still not quite meeting the man’s eyes. “Sorry…I’ll just…I’ll go…” He was in the way, again. He shouldn’t have come here. “Sorry to…be a bother.” And a loud one, at that, with the way he’d dropped that book…

--------------- The old woman gave him a soft smile before she conversed with Roland and made her way to her husband. Roland could not count the times that he had been in this shop before. Hell, he had been coming in here almost since he was a kid and they were still here. There was no question that they were the same. They had not even really upgraded anything with the times, they had kept going with what it was that they had. It was hard to even tell that they had struggled some times.
As Roland sat down he looked back up to the kid with a small tilt of his head as he started to speak. A hand came up as he rested his chin in it listening intently. A brow arched when he said that he was going to go. Roland was not even sure where all of that came from. Was it cool to be like these days? What was he missing. For the greater part he did not really know at all. "Damn, I just asked if you were going to stand there." Roland said to him with a small smirk. Using his foot from under the table he kicked the chair out that was across from him so that the kid could sit.
Roland would not be known as the school yard bully, at least not until he had to. "No need to go." He said with a small shake of his head as he looked back to the laptop that was not on the table in front of him.
